Grouville site approved for convenience store

20 December 2013

Jersey’s Planning Applications Panel has approved an application by the Channel Islands Co-operative Society to build a new shop, three homes and parking spaces on the old De La Mare florist site in Grouville.

The Co-op had worked with planners to reduce the size of the proposed shop to a point where it was considered not to affect shops in Gorey Village.

The scheme comes with an addition to the eastern cycle track and has been designed to take account of Transport and Technical Services’ proposed new road layout.

Sion Methodist Church

At the same meeting, the Planning Applications Panel approved two different applications for Sion Methodist Church to be converted from a place of worship to homes.

One application is for four homes and an office, the other is for five homes. The St John church is a listed building and will be retained in both sets of proposed plans.

Nearby residents objected to the plans and put a strong case to the panel to resist the new houses at the western end of the site. They referred to the potential loss of light and overbearing impact of the development. But panel members voted by four votes to three to approve the applications, after deciding that the application would not unreasonably harm the neighbours’ interests.
