Frozen lasagne recall

08 February 2013

Beef Lasagne made by Findus foods, which contains horse meat, has been imported into the Channel Islands.

If you have this product in yourfridge or freezer, then you should return it to the shop they purchased it from.

Val Cameron, Head of Health Protection Services said “We want to reassure members of the public that this product is not a risk to public health. However, Findus Beef Lasagne contains traces of horse meat and has, therefore, been withdrawn by the manufacturer. This is because the composition and labelling of the product do not meet legal requirements.

“My team has been in contact with all of the local business who have imported the product and the recall process is in hand. I can confirm that horses are not slaughtered for human consumption in Jersey and so there should be no horse meat in the local food chain. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) in the UK is conducting an investigation and, at this stage, we do not know how this incident has happened.”
