Flybe withdraws from Gatwick slots

23 May 2013

The Group Chief Executive Officer for Ports of Jersey, Doug Banister, has released the following statement about Flybe's announcement that it has sold its Gatwick slots to easyJet as from 29 March 2014.

"Jersey Airport was formally advised earlier this morning of Flybe’s sale of its London Gatwick slots to easyJet, with the resultant that it will withdraw its London Gatwick services as from 29 March 2014.

While we are disappointed by today’s announcement we understand the rationale behind the airline’s decision, which has been part of a long running dispute with London Gatwick over their charging structures for smaller aircraft.

Jersey Airport has been aware of the airline’s recent discussions with easyJet in relation to the London Gatwick slots and the likely impact it could have on our air services.

Our route development team has been in active discussion with Flybe and other carriers about how best to accommodate our Jersey Gatwick passengers as a result of this change.

Flybe has committed to maintaining timings, pricing and frequencies on the London Gatwick service until 29 March 2014, allowing sufficient time for Jersey Airport to conclude alternative arrangements.

Flybe provides the Island with the greatest UK coverage and we have received assurance from the airline that no other Jersey air services currently operated by them are affected by this decision. Flybe is a core business partner for Jersey Airport and we remain committed to developing our future business together."
