Island Plan consultation responses

18 November 2013

More than 600 comments from more than 200 individuals and organisations have been received in response to the Minister for Planning and Environment, Deputy Rob Duhamel’s proposed changes to the 2011 Island Plan.

These comments, along with Deputy Duhamel’s initial response, have now been published online. Matters of contention will be discussed in front of independent planning inspectors, Mr Chris Shepley and Mr Alan Langton, at an Examination-in-Public (EiP) that is likely to be held in January 2014.

Deputy Duhamel and the Department’s officials have been considering all of the issues that were raised by respondents to the consultation. Proposals to rezone land to provide new affordable homes have generated a lot of comment, with views expressed for and against. The planning inspectors will consider these views.

Deputy Duhamel has received 34 requests to consider the use of other sites throughout the Island to provide affordable homes: some of these sites have been considered before and others are new. The Minister’s initial response has not been in favour of supporting these requests.

The Department for Education, Sport and Culture has also requested that Deputy Duhamel considers amending the Green Zone policy to allow the potential relocation of Les Quennevais School to be considered in the absence of a specifically allocated site.

A pre-meeting to decide exactly what will be discussed at the EiP and who will be involved in those discussions is to be held at St Paul’s Centre on Thursday 21 November 2013 at 9.15am.
