Planning approval welcomed

The Assistant Treasury Minister has welcomed the Planning Minister’s decision to approve an application from Property Holdings to build 152 new homes in St Helier.
 
At a Ministerial Planning Meeting today, Deputy Rob Duhamel agreed outline plans to build 65 apartments on the current ambulance station site, and a further 87 houses and apartments on the old Sumerland factory site beside it.
 
Deputy Eddie Noel said “I am delighted the Planning Minister has approved this application, which will provide affordable homes for islanders, through a mix of 1, 2 and 3-bedroomed apartments, plus a small number of three-bedroomed townhouses.
 
“The scheme will regenerate two large town sites which currently have very poor buildings on them. It will also help to restore the townscape, repairing large gaps along Rouge Bouillon. Its architecture will fit in with existing buildings without simply mimicking its surroundings.”
 
Property Holdings will now work on the detailed plans, which will need to go through the planning process before work can start on the site when the existing Police and Ambulance facilities are relocated.
