Police Station on Green Street approved

02 July 2013

The Planning and Environment Minister has approved a planning application for a new police station headquarters to be built on the Green Street Car Park site on La Route du Fort, St Helier.

The application, submitted by Jersey Property Holdings, is to construct a four storey police headquarters building with part fifth storey on the northern end of building, together with new access arrangements. Bicycle and motorcycle parking will also be provided on land opposite the new headquarters.

The Minister had deferred the application at a public meeting on 19 April 2013, having stated that he was ‘moving towards an approval’, pending the receipt of additional information to resolve a number of issues, including concerns raised by local residents.

Having considered the additional information received, the Minister has approved the planning application subject to more than 20 planning conditions, including a requirement for approximately 50 parking spaces to be added to Green Street car park adjoining the site.

Deputy Rob Duhamel, Minister for Planning and Environment, said “I have carefully assessed the representations made, including the objections raised, and on balance believe this development provides positive benefits. The potential impact of building our new police headquarters on Green Street is not unreasonable and will provide the much needed new facilities required by our police force.”
