The Transport and Technical Services Department (TTS) is asking people what they think about a proposal to slow down traffic through the St Mary village area.
The Parish of St Mary has asked TTS to look into slowing down vehicles passing through the St Mary village area, especially La Rue des Buttes around the garage.
At the end of February, the Department proposes to install two trial road narrowings - each five metres long - 50 metres either side of the garage. In those sections there will only be room for one vehicle at a time to pass.
TTS will use bolt-down plastic kerbs, held in place with concrete, to narrow the roads. Road signs and yellow lines will be provided to ensure that drivers are clear who has right of way. Gaps will be left between the temporary kerbs and roadside walls so that pedestrians are able to pass.
If the road narrowings are not judged to be a success, TTS can easily remove the kerbs and the signage and poles can be re-used elsewhere.
Senior Engineer for Transport Policy Rob Cabot said: ”We're keen to hear from anyone who might be affected by the scheme, either
in support of the proposals or if they have any concerns which we may need to address.”
