Planning appeals consultation - date change

22 March 2013

Islanders now have until 26 April to make their views on the current planning appeals process heard.

The Department of the Environment launched the Green Paper consultation recently. It asks Islanders for their opinion on how the planning appeals system might be run.

Earlier this week, the States Assembly agreed adopted a proposition to set up an independent planning appeals tribunal and that detailed proposals for that tribunal should be presented to Members by the end of June 2013. In light of this timetable the deadline for making comments on the Green Paper has been brought forward to 26 April 2013.

The Minister for Planning and Environment, Deputy Rob Duhamel, said "I respectfully note the decision of the Assembly but think there is still significant benefit in continuing with the public consultation over the appeals system. Issues such as how any appeal body might be constituted and what type of member would sit on it remain to be resolved and I hope that comments received will assist in delivering an appeals system that is thorough and appropriate. I have made it clear that all comments received will be considered in the context of the States decision."

The deadline for responses to the consultation is now 26 April 2013. You can find the consultation paper on the States of Jersey website at www.gov.je/consultations.
