Jersey to welcome Arab delegation

20 May 2014

A delegation of Arab ambassadors will arrive in Jersey on 22 May 2014 for a two-day visit. The delegates, from the Arab Ambassadors’ Council (AAC), which represents ambassadors of Arab states accredited in the United Kingdom, will be welcomed to the Island by the Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst.

Led by the Ambassador of the State of Kuwait, H.E. Mr Khaled Al Duwaisan, the delegates will attend meetings with the Chief Minister and other ministers, including the External Relations Minister, Senator Sir Philip Bailhache; the Treasury and Resources Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf; and the Assistant Economic Development Minister, Deputy James Baker.

The programme for the visit will include meetings with finance industry representatives, a viewing of the coin hoard at Jersey Museum, and tours of Mont Orgueil and the Durrell Wildlife Park. The delegation will also be guests of honour at a dinner hosted by the Bailiff, to which all States Members have been invited.

Senator Gorst said: “It is an honour to welcome to Jersey such a prestigious delegation from the Arab Ambassadors’ Council. This visit will reinforce our ties with existing partners such as the UAE and Qatar, and will help to promote Jersey more widely in the region. Direct engagement of this kind raises Jersey’s profile and helps to identify opportunities for further, mutually beneficial relations.”
