Recycle Your Electricals this Saturday

16 September 2014

Islanders' old, broken and unwanted electrical items are being collected this Saturday (20 September) at the third annual Recycle Your Electricals event.

From 8am until 12 noon, Islanders will be able to drop off their unwanted items at:

  • Les Creux Country Park, St Brelade
  • St Ouen Parish Depot
  • St Peter’s Valley (next to Victoria in the Valley car park)
  • St Martin Public Hall Car Park
  • St Saviour Parish Depot, Rue des Pres Trading Estate
  • Holme Grown, Grouville
  • Acorn, La Rue Asplet, Trinity
  • Parade Gardens, St Helier

Recycle and reuse electrical items

Transport and Technical Services (TTS) are holding Recycle Your Electricals in order to collect household electrical items that can be recycled or reused.

Schools have also got involved with this campaign and 19 schools have set up their own collection points this week.

Reusable electrical items will be given to Acorn for reuse, while old and broken items will be taken to Bellozanne for shipping to the UK for specialist recycling.

Don't bin electrical items

TTS Recycling Manager Emma Richardson-Calladine said "On average everyone buys three new electrical items every year and we are only currently receiving about 50 per cent of the electricals people throw away for recycling. The aim of this campaign is to remind everyone that electricals shouldn’t go in the bin and we hope our event also makes recycling electricals even easier by setting up collection points across the island."

If you cannot drop your unwanted items off this Saturday, you can take your electrical items to the Household Recycling Centre at Gate 4 Bellozanne at any time.

It is open from Monday to Saturday between 7.30am and 4.15pm and Sunday between 8am and 12.45pm.
