Japanese Ambassador to visit Jersey

31 March 2014

Japan’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Keiichi Hayashi, will visit Jersey on 3 and 4 April 2014.

During his visit, the Ambassador will meet the Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, and the External Relations Minister, Sir Philip Bailhache. He will also meet the Treasury Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, and the Economic Development Minister, Senator Alan Maclean. The Ambassador and his wife will stay as guests of the Lieutenant Governor, General Sir John McColl, at Government House.

Senator Gorst said “I look forward to discussing topics of mutual interest with the Japanese Ambassador. Jersey and Japan already enjoy a productive relationship as joint members of the OECD Peer Review Group, and there are agreements in place between our two governments promoting greater transparency in issues concerning tax and financial crime.

“I am confident that, by continuing to strengthen business and diplomatic relations with the world’s third largest economy, we will deliver long-term benefits for the Island.”

The Ambassador will also meet representatives of the Island’s finance industry and will be the guest of honour at a dinner hosted by the Bailiff, Sir Michael Birt.
