20 November 2014

Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the UK, His Excellency Dr Dalhatu Sarki Tafida, will visit Jersey on 24 and 25 November 2014. Dr Tafida will be accompanied by a delegation from the High Commission and by his wife, Her Excellency Mrs Salamatu Tafida.

During his visit, Dr Tafida will meet the Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, and members of his Council of Ministers, including the External Relations Minister, Senator Sir Philip Bailhache, and the Economic Development Minister, Senator Lyndon Farnham. He will also meet the Lieutenant Governor, His Excellency General Sir John McColl, and the Bailiff, Sir Michael Birt.

The visit reflects Jersey’s commitment to engage with and support fellow Commonwealth nations. International finance, financial regulation, healthcare will be likely discussion points.

As well as attending meetings at Jersey Finance and the Jersey Financial Services Commission, the delegation will also visit the Jersey Museum and the Durrell Wildlife Park.

Promoting economic growth and diversification

Senator Gorst said: “I look forward to welcoming Dr Tafida to Jersey. It is a priority of this Council of Ministers to promote growth and diversification within the Island’s economy and there are opportunities for mutually beneficial links to be established between Jersey and African nations such as Nigeria.”

Dr Tafida and his wife will be the guests of honour at a dinner hosted by the Bailiff on 24 November.
