Recycling park plans

25 September 2014

Plans for a new wide-ranging recycling park at La Collette have been announced by the Transport and Techinical Services (TTS) Minister, Deputy Kevin Lewis.

TTS is seeking planning approval for a new purpose-built facility which will make recycling easier and more accessible for the public.

The household recycling facilities at Bellozanne were established eight years ago and have been well used but were a temporary measure and not ideal for public use or for operational access for TTS.

The proposed La Collette recycling park would provide plenty of room for public access and unloading and room for expansion including purpose-built facilities for receiving items for reuse. It would be used by both commercial operators and householders, as the long term vision is to bring together the household recycling centre, household green waste reception and waste metals recycling currently located at Bellozanne with the existing La Collette facilities of Energy from Waste, commercial organics recycling and aggregates recycling.

Centralising the Island’s recycling operations at La Collette means that recycling will be more easy to export from the port and TTS can work more efficiently from a single site.

Deputy Lewis said “Our plan to develop a recycling park at La Collette is our solution to providing a sustainable and future proof service for the Island’s waste. The park will provide easy to use purpose built facilities for the public and allow us to work more efficiently within a dedicated base for our waste management activities.”
