Employment Forum reviews minimum wage

17 June 2014

The Employment Forum is asking people for their views on what changes should be made to the minimum wage from April 2015.

Chair of the Employment Forum, Helen Ruelle, said “As part of our review, we are asking the public to tell us what rate they think the minimum wage should be set at from April next year. We would particularly like to hear from minimum wage earners and employers who pay the minimum wage. We are also asking businesses in what circumstances they might be able to tolerate greater minimum wage increases in the future.”

Recommendation made to Minister

The forum will consider the responses that it receives as well as the latest information about the economy and wages in the Island. It will then make a recommendation to the Minister for Social Security. If the Minister accepts the recommendations, changes to the law would be proposed later this year.

A survey is available online and copies can also be obtained by contacting the Employment Forum or the Social Security Department reception desk. Respondents may also request a private meeting with the forum.

Comments must be received by 8 August 2014.
