Illegal immigrants refused entry

A man and a woman, believed to be Chinese nationals, were refused entry to Jersey on Sunday evening (25 October) having arrived here from St Malo.

The couple were travelling with Taiwanese passports which were found to be forged after they were examined by Customs and Immigration Officers at the Elizabeth Ferry Terminal. 

Both were detained overnight and were returned to France on Monday morning where they were due to be met by Officers from the Service de Police aux Frontières.

It is believed that the couple were using Jersey as a means to get to the UK.

Assistant Director, Frontiers & Investigation, Andrew Hunt, said: “These, and previous refusals of three other Chinese nationals in April, indicate that people facilitating the illegal entry of others will test the resilience of Jersey’s immigration controls as a point of entry into the Common Travel Area.  It emphasises the importance of the Island maintaining strong and professional border controls at our ports.”
