Work begins on St Peter's Valley path

13 November 2015

Work to construct a recently approved two-mile long pedestrian and cycle path in St Peter’s Valley starts next week.
The path will provide a safe route through the valley for pedestrians and cyclists, starting at Tesson Chapel and finishing at La Dimerie, near the former Fantastic Tropical Gardens.  Some existing paths will be improved and new paths created with connections to bus stops and other woodland paths on route.

Phased approach

The path will be built in three phases:
Phase 1 November 2015 to August 2016 - Tesson to Le Mont Fallu
Phase 2 August 2016 to March 2017 - Le Mont Fallu to Le Mont de Louannes
Phase 3 March 2017 to Nov 2017 Le Mont de Louannes to La Dimerie

From Monday 16 November in the first phase of work, portable traffic lights will be in operation from time to time between Monday and Friday, 9 am to 6 pm.

Some trees will have to be removed to allow the construction of the new path, however there is a tree replanting scheme to offset these losses which aims to enhance the wildlife corridors which link existing woodlands in the valley.

In phase 1 (Tesson to Mont Fallu) the plans have been altered from the original to ensure that the three mature oak trees to the south of Quetivel Mill are saved.
