Warning for jetski users

​Jetski users are being reminded of the speed limits in force in the Island's bays.

As the weather has improved in recent days, Jersey Coastguard has recorded an increase in the calls it has received about jetski users speeding in restricted areas on the west coast of St Aubin’s Bay and operating at speed within 200 metres from the water’s edge among surfers, swimmers and paddle boarders in St Ouen’s Bay.

Jersey Harbour Master, Phil Buckley, said "While we all welcome this exceptionally warm weather conditions for this time of the year and want everyone to enjoy the favourable sea conditions we do have legislation in place, restricting certain areas for jetski operations.

"A five knot speed limit exists in all bays up to 200 metres from the water’s edge and launching of craft is prohibited between safe swimming flags. The purpose of this legislation, which is available to view online, is for the safety of all water users. Anyone who wants further advice can also contact Jersey Coastguard."

Breaking this law can result in a fine of up to £2,000.
