Drugs worth £1million seized

26 September 2016

Drugs with an estimated value of £1million were seized by Jersey Customs and Immigration on Saturday 24 September 2016 when officers stopped a UK registered vehicle arriving on the Condor Liberation from Poole.

Following a search of the vehicle, officers found a commercial quantity of controlled drugs.  The drugs await analysis, but it is estimated that approximately 40 kilos of cannabis, 5000 MDMA tablets and 2 kilos of MDMA powder were concealed in the vehicle.

Lee James Barratt, aged 50, has been charged with fraudulent evasion.

Deidre Mezbourian, Assistant Minister, Home Affairs said “This is a significant seizure and is a further indication for the need to maintain a strong enforcement presence at the Island’s borders.

"As Assistant Minister for Home Affairs, I am very proud of the work carried out by the Officers of the Customs and Immigration Service and I would like to pass on my thanks to all those involved in this particular seizure.”
