New head teacher for St Peter's School

23 June 2016

Sam Dixon will be the new head teacher of St Peter’s Primary School, taking over at Christmas when the current head, Steve Dewhurst, retires after 16 years in the post.

Mrs Dixon, who has been deputy head at St Saviour’s School since 2008, is a former pupil of JCG prep and JCG who studied biophysics at Leeds University, before completing her Post Graduate Certificate of Education. She started teaching at First Tower primary school in 1990, where she progressed through a wide variety of subject and phase leader roles under two different head teachers. Mrs Dixon also taught at Janvrin School where she was a phase leader and learning co-ordinator.

"I’ve learnt a great deal from having worked with five excellent head teacher colleagues during my career and am absolutely delighted to be joining their ranks and taking over at St Peter’s School. I will miss St Saviour’s tremendously, as I have loved working here, but am thrilled to be moving to another school that’s right at the heart of its community" Mrs Dixon said.

Education Minister Deputy Rod Bryans said "I am extremely pleased about the decision for Sam Dixon to become the new head of St Peters school. It is an excellent appointment for a fine school and I'm sure that the good work Steve Dewhurst has embedded over the past 16 years will flourish under her stewardship."

Sean O’Regan, the Education Department’s Director of Standards and Achievement, added "This is another great appointment from within the ranks of existing Jersey teachers and shows that our investment in leadership training has been extremely effective."
