Seasonal workers encouraged to use online leavers form

31 October 2016

The States of Jersey is asking seasonal workers to complete the new online leavers form when they leave Jersey at the end of their contracts.  This will make sure that people are not chased for contributions for the periods when they are not living on the Island, and it will mean they can easily bring their tax affairs up to date.

This simple and easy to use form is available at www.gov.je/LeavingJersey and informs Social Security, the parishes and the Taxes Office that an individual has left the Island.  Introduced in May this year, it is suitable for anyone who is leaving the island for three months or more, except students; Islanders studying overseas continue to be classed as resident in Jersey throughout their studies.

As well as the parishes, Social Security and the Taxes Office, the online leavers form immediately updates Health and Social Services plus the Education Department.  GPs can also be updated if this option is selected, so that people are removed from mailing lists for appointment reminders.

Sophie Le Sueur, Operations Director at Social Security, explains “Customers can complete the leavers form online, anywhere in the world and in only a few minutes.  This is a big improvement for customer service: before May this year, customers had to call several different departments to update their details.  This makes sure they are not chased for contributions for periods when they are not living on the island.

“We know that over 500 people have used the leavers form since it was launched.  However, we need to spread the word as some people are still not aware that this online form is available and are contacting the States of Jersey unnecessarily or not telling us at all.”

The Leaving Jersey Form can be found online at www.gov.je/LeavingJersey.
