Topping out of new Police Headquarters

A topping out ceremony marking the completion of the main structure of the new Police Headquarters building was held today, Thursday 7 January 2015.

The ceremony, which was held following the fitting of the last beam of the structural frame, was attended by Home Affairs Minister Deputy Kristina Moore; Infrastructure Minister Deputy Eddie Noel; Assistant Home Affairs Minister, St Lawrence Connétable Deidre Mezbourian; the Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny Panel member, Deputy Sam Mezec; the Chief Officer and Deputy Chief Officer of the States of Jersey Police, Mike Bowron and Barry Taylor and the Facilities and Projects Manager Rob Moy.

The contractor Rok-Regal Construction Ltd began construction on the site at Green Street in October 2014. The project is being managed by the Department for Infrastructure (which includes the team formerly called Jersey Property Holdings).

Deputy Moore said “Today marks the next step in providing much-needed suitable premises for our police force so that they can continue to meet the demands of the community. The States of Jersey Police have waited a long time to be provided with accommodation which suits the needs of a modern police service.”

Infrastructure Minister, Deputy Eddie Noel, said “This project will, at last, provide the fit for purpose building from which our police can operate. The Summerland Site at Rouge Bouillon can be demolished once vacant and will then be used to provide a site for affordable housing.

The contractor and the design team will continue their work to deliver this complex building and I look forward to seeing it come to fruition by the end of the year.”

It is anticipated that construction work will finish in December 2016 and the States of Jersey Police will complete their fit-out and move in during the first quarter of 2017.
