New head for Rouge Bouillon School

15 March 2016

Russell Price will be the next head teacher of Rouge Bouillon Primary School and starts his new role in September 2016. He is currently head teacher of Victoria College Preparatory School.
Mr Price will take over from James Speight, who retires this summer after 39 years in teaching in Jersey, 25 of them as a head. Mr Speight has led Rouge Bouillon for the past 15 years and before that he spent four years as head at La Moye followed by six years in the top job at St Martin’s School.

Mr Price said “I have enjoyed my seven years at VCP very much, working with a great staff, fantastic children and superbly supportive parents. Although I will miss VCP, I am very excited by the opportunity to join Rouge Bouillon. It is a really vibrant and nurturing school with strong core values that were evident through the practice I have seen there and the children I met. It has a wonderful atmosphere and I look forward to working within such a diverse and energetic school community.”

Background

Mr Price is a graduate of the University of Wales and gained an MPhil in Environment and Development from the University of Cambridge. He came to Jersey in 1999 to work at St Mark’s primary school moving to St Peter’s in 2002 and then Jersey College for Girls Preparatory School in 2006. He started teaching at VCP in January 2009 and was promoted to head in 2011.

Praise for the current head teacher

The Chair of Rouge Bouillon’s Board of Governors, Dominic Jones, said “I'm delighted that Russell Price has been appointed to take over from James Speight. The hard work of James and his team over the last few years has created a fantastic platform for Russell to inherit.  Rouge Bouillon is a unique primary school that requires a person of Russell’s experience and ability to get the best out of the undoubted talents of our students. I am confident the school will go from strength to strength under his leadership.”

Education Minister Deputy Rod Bryans added “Russell Price brings a range of experience to the post at Rouge Bouillon, which is a large, busy town school in the heart of its community. He is passionate about education and clearly thrilled about this next step in his career. I would like to thank James Speight for his long and invaluable service to countless Jersey families over nearly four decades. I wish him a very happy retirement.”
