Perquage sea wall repair tests start

21 October 2016

The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) will be trialling different repair methods on the sea wall near the Perquage car park starting on 24 October.

The work will be dependent on weather and tide conditions. Three different types of sprayed concrete products will be used and their effectiveness assessed over the winter period. The work will take up to five days and generate some noise between 9am to 5pm. No noisy work will be carried out outside of these hours.

Some spaces in the Perquage car park will be cordoned off to enable the work. Cyclists and pedestrians will still be able to access the promenade.

This trial is being conducted before repairs are carried out and the sea wall raised by one foot.  At the end of 2015, DfI consulted with residents in the area and it was decided that in order to reduce the risk of flooding in the Beaumont area, the sea wall would be heightened.

The main works will be carried out in two phases, Phase 1 from the Gunsite Slip to the Perquage Car Park, and Phase 2 from the Perquage Car Park east approximately 160m. Work on Phase 1 is expected to start early in 2017.
