Chief Minister makes first visit to Saudi Arabia and Bahrain

06 November 2017

The Chief Minister of Jersey, Senator Ian Gorst, is currently undertaking his first official visit to the Kingdoms of Saudi Arabia (6 November) and Bahrain (7 November). Senator Gorst will use the visit to discuss the growing relationships between the countries and the Island, and opportunities for future cooperation.

Whilst in Saudi Arabia, Senator Gorst met with His Excellency Adel Al-Jubeir, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and expressed his thanks for the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Saudi Embassy in London for facilitating his visit. Senator Gorst also met with His Excellency Dr. Hamad Al-Bazai, Vice Minister of Finance, with whom he discussed existing commercial and regulatory cooperation between Jersey and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as the opportunity for further cooperation.

In Bahrain, the Chief Minister will meet with the Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain and the Minister of Finance.

Jersey has developed a well-established and strongly positive commercial reputation in the Gulf region in recent years, which has included the successful negotiation of two Double Taxation Agreements.
