New concessionary bus pass scheme

06 February 2017

The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) is launching a pilot scheme to provide concessionary bus passes for unlimited free bus travel to Jersey residents who have a long-term disability that prevents them from driving.

The pilot scheme starts on 1 March 2017 and runs through to the end of 2019. However, information and application forms are available now and applications can be submitted in advance for processing, but the bus passes will not be issued until 1 March. There is a £15 charge for the card to help cover the administration costs.

DfI has been working closely with LibertyBus and key health professionals to develop the detailed scheme arrangements and in liaison with organisations in the voluntary sector.

Information and application forms will be available via the webpage and LibertyBus website and from Liberation Station, Parish Halls and a variety of community organisations.

The pilot scheme is being funded by DfI and will run until the end of 2019. The scheme will be reviewed before the end of 2018 and recommendations made as to how it should continue and be funded beyond 2019.

Deputy Eddie Noel, Minister for Infrastructure said, “I am delighted that we are now launching this new concessionary bus pass. I am grateful to all the people and organisations who have helped us with advice in the development of this scheme. Their ongoing support and assistance to those people who are potentially going to apply is invaluable in making this scheme viable.”
