Dates for inquiries into two significant planning proposals have been announced and Islanders urged to come forward with their views.
A public inquiry provides a structured opportunity to explore planning issues in depth to ensure that if a project is approved, it is the right decision for Jersey.
The Minister for the Environment has called a planning inquiry to consider plans (P/2017/1023 and P/2017/0805) for a four-bedroom home following demolition of a glasshouse, and a new holiday village of 27 two and three-bedroom self-catering units, at Tamba Park, St Lawrence. The inquiry is due to start on Monday 19 February 2018 and is expected to last five days. It will be overseen by independent inspector Graham Self.
A second public inquiry to examine plans to build 65 homes on Green Zone land in St Peter will start on Monday 5 March 2018. It will be overseen by independent inquiry inspector Nigel McGurk and is expected to last three days. The application PP/2017/1444, submitted by Andium Homes, is to build on fields P632 and P559, on land opposite the Sir George Carteret pub on La Route du Manoir, St Peter.
The Minister for the Environment, Deputy Steve Luce has called public inquiries on both proposals because if approved, they would be a significant departure from the Island Plan. Both sets of proposals for Tamba Park, and St Peter village homes, are for development in the Green Zone, where development is only allowed for exceptional reasons.
The inspectors want to hear people’s views on the proposals. The deadline to send written comments to the Tamba Park public inquiry is 5pm on Friday 5 January 2018.

Planning process
By law, the Department of the Environment has to follow a set planning process to ensure it provides a fair and consistent service to Jersey. This process includes considering all planning applications – whether they come from individuals, companies, or other States departments – in the same fair and consistent way, looking at all the relevant issues.
The Island Plan, which is approved by the States, is the foundation for all planning decisions in Jersey, and is underpinned by a strategy to direct new development into more built up areas, and away from the countryside (policy SP1).
