Open event outlines environmental impact of Future Hospital project

15 May 2017

People living near the General Hospital and other interested Islanders are being invited to an open event about the environmental impact assessment (EIA) of the Future Hospital.

The open exhibition will take place at Church House, St Helier on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 May, with staggered opening times allowing those wishing to attend to fit this into their daily routine.

Project Director Bernard Place said “The exhibition will enable the Future Hospital team to explain how the environmental impact assessment sits within the planning application for the proposed development. It also provides an opportunity to share information that has been gathered to support that application with those who are interested, as well as a chance to ask questions about the project and highlight any issues.”

Effect on surrounding area

Planning regulations require an EIA to be undertaken on proposed large-scale developments in order to assess the potential effect on the surrounding area while building work is in progress.

Building a new Hospital on part of the existing site of Jersey General Hospital was agreed in principle by the States Assembly in December 2016. Following this decision, an application seeking outline planning permission is being prepared. With a project of this scale, there is a lot of information that has to be gathered to support the application; as part of that process, the Future Hospital team would like to hear from as many people as possible.

The general public are welcome to drop into the event, which will be held at Church House (opposite the Town Church, next to Royal Square) on the following dates

  • Thursday 18 May, 12noon- 6.30pm
  • Friday 19 May, 8am- 3pm

Mr Place added “We hope that anyone who is interested will be able to attend. It is important for the Project Team to understand people’s views as part of the continued development of the Future Hospital, and that people have the opportunity to learn about the next stage of the project.”

For people who cannot attend, information will be available on the Future Hospital website after the event.
