Paris Show – Jersey strengthens French links

22 February 2017

Jersey’s links with France will be strengthened by attendance at one of the country’s most significant expositions in Paris.

Jersey and Normandy will once again work together at the Paris International Agricultural Show (Salon International de l’Agriculture) that runs between 26 February and 5 March 2017.

The event is one of the world’s largest and most important agricultural shows. It attracts almost 700,000 people, including senior politicians.

Jersey has developed strong links with regional contacts in the Normandy region and this is the fifth year that Jersey has attended the event. The Island recently agreed to renew its partnership with the General Council of La Manche to work together at the show.

  • Building on existing political, economic and cultural links with Normandy and fostering relationships between Jersey and France at a regional and national level.
  • Promoting Jersey in an important marketplace by highlighting its unique location, landscape, history and culture, and Jersey produce such as lobsters, oysters, dairy and Jersey Royal new potatoes.

The Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture, Senator Lyndon Farnham will attend the event, along with representatives from his department, and Genuine Jersey.

During his visit, Senator Farnham will meet the President of the Regional Council of Normandy (and former Minister of Defence) Hervé Morin, and the President of the Departmental Council of La Manche, Sénateur Philippe Bas.

Senator Farnham said “I’m looking forward to renewing existing contacts and friendships from last year and making new ones. The landscape has changed since then following a merger of some of the political and administrative boundaries of France. It means there’s an even greater opportunity to continue to build and foster our crucial political, economic and cultural links with some of France’s key politicians at regional and national level.”

Chief Executive of Genuine Jersey, John Garton said “The Salon International de l’Agriculture offers us a superb opportunity to develop our relationship with our neighbours, partnering with one of France’s most renowned regions for food and drink.

“By showcasing some of our most renowned and authentic Jersey produce in this arena, we’ll be supporting efforts to build an attractive and rounded picture of what Jersey has to offer.”

Visitors to the Jersey section of the stand will be able to enjoy a Genuine Jersey cream tea or a cocktail hour aperitif made with Jersey gin (‘gin and sin’), in addition to tastings of many other local products.
