First Channel Island Children’s Book Award

19 June 2018

The Channel Island Children’s Book Award (CICBA) is being launched this year with children aged nine to 12 years old being asked to nominate their favourite book of the last 12 months.

The award, which is being jointly organised by Jersey Library and Guernsey Schools’ Library Service, is open to children in both Bailiwicks who are invited to nominate any book which they think best fits the award criteria.

The award criteria are:

  • Fiction published in English for the first time and between July 2017 and June 2018
  • A stand-alone novel – The first book in a new series will be accepted but no sequels
  • The author must be from the UK, Ireland or the Channel Islands

“We are looking for a captivating and engaging new book which you’d be excited to tell your friends about,” said Cathy Bithell from Jersey Library.

Nominations open on Monday 2 July and will close on 28 October 2018 and can be made online on the award website.

Once the nomination period ends, all eligible books will be whittled down by a panel of judges into a final shortlist. Schools will then have the opportunity to discuss and review the shortlisted titles and the winner will be announced at a special award ceremony at Jersey Library.
