Volunteers sought for Jersey Access Forum

09 October 2018

People who regularly use coast and countryside paths are being invited to put their names forward to join the new Jersey Access Forum.

The forum is being established as part of the Countryside Access Strategy, which aims to improve the existing system of paths and create a safe, sustainable and cost-effective network which has minimal impact on the environment and its wildlife.

Minister for the Environment, Deputy John Young, said: “People enjoy the natural environment in many different ways, and we have to ensure that islanders continue to enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits our open coast and countryside provide, while controlling their impact.

“The Jersey Access Forum will be a way for people who use the countryside, such as walkers, cyclists and horse riders, to work with government and other land managers to ensure that we protect the natural environment, while adapting the network of paths to better suit the demands of the modern population.”

The provision of access to the countryside is viewed as a collaborative responsibility across States’ departments and private landowners.

Senator Steve Pallett, Assistant Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture said: “I am extremely supportive of any initiative that improves opportunities for islanders to stay fit and healthy. Providing better access to the countryside will help to further those aims.”

Applications to join the forum are being assessed independently to ensure that all interests are fairly and accurately represented. To register your interest, email peter@4insight.info, or phone +44(0)1534 859300.
