Jersey Businesses Access India

20 December 2018

A scheme to help businesses access the Indian market has been opened up to Jersey firms.

The Access India programme, an initiative of the High Commission of India in London, has invited local companies wishing to establish themselves in India to sign up.

Under the scheme, businesses looking to enter the Indian market receive mentoring, networking opportunities, and advice. It also provides market entry support to give businesses information and specialist help as they establish themselves in India. The programme focuses on companies with high-end technologies and innovative products.

The opening of the programme to Jersey businesses follows the Indian High Commissioner’s inaugural visit to the island in July. During the visit, His Excellency Mr Y K Sinha met with politicians and officials in Jersey to strengthen government and business links between the two jurisdictions.

Officials from the Ministry for External Relations and Jersey Business then met with the Access India team at the Indian High Commission in London to reach agreement on how Jersey businesses could access the programme.

The Minister for External Relations, Senator Ian Gorst, commented: “This is an excellent outcome from the Indian High Commissioner’s visit. The Government of Jersey is committed to developing links with dynamic global markets and diversifying Jersey’s economy, so I am pleased that we have been able to enhance opportunities for island businesses looking to access India.”

Graeme Smith, CEO at Jersey Business, also commented: “We are really pleased to be working with the External Relations Global Markets team to enable local companies to work internationally. We started an Export Club this year with the aim of increasing off-island trade and this initiative is a model we hope to replicate for accessing other global markets. We will continue to work with those companies on the Access India programme to help them maximise their opportunities in the market.”

Since the programme was officially opened to Jersey businesses in October, a number of local firms have signed up.

Tim de Gruchy, Managing Director of 365 Global Tickets Ltd said: “Since His Excellency Mr Y K Sinha’s visit in July, 365Tickets has been privileged to have further meetings with additional trade representative at High Commissioner offices in London to support our interests in India. This has led to introductions and relationships being fostered with external Indian professional services. We'd like to thank Jersey Business & Government of Jersey External Relations Global Markets team for their introductory services and continued support, and we shall maintain open lines of communication in regards to our progress in India.”

Businesses wishing to find out more about the programme should contact Jersey Business by emailing info@jerseybusiness.je. More information can also be found on the Access India website.
