Islanders invited to find out about on-island nursing degree

20 November 2018

NursingStudents

The Health and Community Services department (HCS) is inviting islanders interested in a career in nursing to find out more about studying for their degree in Jersey.

Prospective applicants to the degree programme can attend one of three information sessions, where they will be able to find out about the pre-registration nursing programme offered in Jersey. The course, which is linked to the University of Chester, allows students to study for a degree in Adult Nursing without leaving the island.

Anyone interested in the programme can attend the sessions at Peter Crill House on

  • Monday 26 November, from 11am to 3pm
  • Wednesday 28 November, from 4pm to 7pm
  • Thursday 6 December, from 4pm to 7pm.

There will be a presentation on the hour at each event, and staff will be on hand to provide information about the course and the application process. Prospective students will have the opportunity to meet lecturing staff, ask questions about the course, and to find out more about other degree options, including Children’s Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, and Midwifery courses.

Julie Mesny, Head of Education, Learning and Development for HCS, said: “We have been running this on-island degree course since 2014 and we have had some really positive feedback. Before we launched the course, those wishing to study for their nursing degree had to move to the UK, which sometimes presented practical or financial difficulties for local students. The on-island course is a fantastic opportunity for us to train up more home-grown nurses.

“We do have some fixed entry requirements, but our nurses come from a range of different backgrounds. Nursing is a rewarding and fulfilling career, and I would encourage anybody who is considering applying to come along and find out more.”

The information sessions are open to everyone, but those who would like to attend are asked to book a place by calling +44(0)1534 444 210, or by emailing d.worley@health.gov.je
