Motorists in the eastern parishes are being advised to check diversion routes regularly, as the resurfacing work on La Grande Route de St Martin is progressing to a new phase.
The road reconstruction project is running to schedule, but, from now on, the exact locations of closures will change daily.
Diversion routes on Thursday, 1 August will be particularly different so that work can be carried out at the crossroads at Midland Stores. Drivers will not be able to access La Grande Route de St Martin from Route de Maufant or Rue du Trot, which means that the diversion routes will be longer.
Highway Maintenance Manager, Rob Cabot, said: “We are now entering a period of the project where the road closures and diversions will change regularly. Carrying out the project in this way means that the work can be done more efficiently, and also means that the project will finish sooner.
“While the longer diversion routes may seem like an inconvenience, they are chosen because they can safely cope with the volume of traffic. Motorists are therefore asked to follow the posted diversions, because this will ultimately result in fewer delays and will help to keep all road users safe.”
Staff will be positioned in strategic locations throughout the new phase of the project, who will be able to help drivers if needed. Islanders can also find the latest information about the project by visiting gov.je/roadworks before starting their journeys, or by checking the Government of Jersey’s social media pages.
Bus routes 3, 13, and 23 will continue to be affected by the project. During the road closures, these bus services will need to follow the diversion routes, and so some bus stops will not be served. A free shuttle bus service will collect bus users from the affected areas to take them to a useable bus stop, where they will be able to connect with the normal bus services.
