Joining forces for visitor search

08 January 2019

Prison, Police and Customs and Immigration officers joined forces recently to search people visiting the prison.

The joint services operation was conducted over the festive period as part of a prison and police strategy to deliver security, deterrence and community safety.

Two police officers, the customs and prison dog team and prison officers searched visitors entering La Moye to prevent and deter contraband from being smuggled into the prison.

The SoJPS Governor Nick Cameron said that the tri-service team carried out a successful operation.

“Although no items were found on this occasion, we are pleased to say the operation has great deterrence value and we appreciated the collaboration between the SoJ Prison, Police and Customs and Immigration Services.

“We are all working hard to enhance the safety of all islanders as part of the new Justice and Home Affairs department. The SoJPS will conduct similar operations in the year ahead.

“We warmly welcome visitors to the prison, supporting our strategy to rehabilitate offenders and help reduce reoffending, whilst taking a zero-tolerance approach toward any unlawful activity. We want our community and its prison to be as free from drugs and other contraband, and as safe as possible for all.”
