Chief Minister's Liberation Day message

09 May 2019

Today is the 74th anniversary of Jersey's liberation from German occupation.

This year also marks historic milestones in the liberation of women. On 22 May 1919 the States of Jersey passed a new law allowing women over the age of 30 to vote. Liberation Day services today will celebrate local women’s organisations and achievements.

In his Liberation Day message, the Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondré, discusses the contribution of courageous women in Jersey throughout the Occupation.
