Last chance to enter the Space Chase

09 August 2019

Jersey Library’s Space Chase, Summer Reading Challenge for 2019 was launched a month ago, but it’s not too late for children to join the challenge.

To complete the Space Chase challenge, children aged between 4-11 need to borrow and read six library books of their choice by 7 September. The Summer Reading Challenge offers children a fun filled and engaging reading activity for the summer, which has positive outcomes for their reading habits and literacy levels.

Chief Librarian Edward Jewell said: “We have had nearly 1,700 people sign up for this year’s challenge and there’s still plenty of time to enter and take part. Congratulations to the readers who have already completed the challenge. It has clearly been a rewarding experience for them.”

Seven-year-old, Charlotte McClusky finished the Summer Reading Challenge, working her way through six books.

”I wanted to do the reading challenge because it’s fun! You get to read books that you’ve never read before which is exciting. The space theme is cool and I love the baby character called Bear the best, and found all the characters in the hunt around the library. My favourite book was called, ‘My Worst Book Ever’ by Allan Ahlberg.”

Children who are not library members can register for free at Jersey’s libraries and receive their Space Chase collector’s folder to complete, as well as access to online content. Folders can also be collected from the mobile library.
