Branch library development drop-in session

A drop-in session is being held next week so that Islanders can find out about plans to relocate the branch library to the Communicare Centre.

Chief Librarian Ed Jewell will be hosting the socially-distanced drop-in session at Communicare on Tuesday 10 November between 4pm and 6pm – attendees are reminded to follow public health guidelines and wear a face mask inside the public space.

“Communicare is an ideal space for a community library – it’s easily-accessible at the heart of the St Brelade community, and it already hosts multiple community-based health and wellbeing groups,” he said. “Moving to Communicare is an opportunity not just to find a new home for the library, but also to rethink how it can best serve the needs of the community. I’d encourage any interested Islanders to come along to the drop-in session and help us ensure that this new space reflects what they need.”

Jersey Library is aiming to open the doors to the new Communicare Community Library early in the new year. 

The Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Kevin Lewis, has signed a Ministerial Decision granting permission for the Communicare Centre to be leased, enabling the library to transfer there from the old Les Quennevais School site.

An initial two-year lease is expected be signed for the space at Communicare with the possibility of a further three-year extension, giving Jersey Library the opportunity to support the future development of community library provision.
