Online and telephone access proving popular

06 August 2020

The Customer and Local Services (CLS) building in La Motte Street is to remain closed to drop-in customers following the success of the new approach adopted during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Overall, more customers have been accessing a full range of government services via phone on (01534) 444444 and online at www.gov.je with customers taking the opportunity to access services at a time and a place that suits them.

With this easier method for customers to access the services, online applications for key services such as registration cards and changes to Income support have tripled since the start of the year and daily phone calls to the department have risen from 450 to over 700 a day.

In addition, customers can drop-off important documents using a ‘Secure Drop’ post box which is accessible 24/7.

Ian Burns, Director General of Customer and Local Services, said: “W’ve seen an increase in the number of queries handled since making it easier and quicker for customers to access Government services.

"Our team at Customer and Local Services have been hard at work throughout the pandemic supporting Islanders and during this challenging time, we prioritised telephone contact for customers, reducing their need to make a journey into town to get the advice and support they need.

“Overall, it’s now easier than ever to access our services by making them available over the telephone and online, which in turn enables us to provide extra support to those customers who need it most.

“Of course, we fully appreciate how important it is to support those members of our community with more complex enquiries who may need or feel they would prefer to see someone face-to-face. With this in mind, customers can arrange a convenient appointment, by calling us on (01534) 444444."

More information about online and telephone services is available on the Government of Jersey website.
