Les Quennevais Library to reopen

03 September 2020

books

From Monday 7 September, the Les Quennevais branch library will re-open at the old Les Quennevais School site. There will be a trial of extended opening hours at the branch library, and the town library will also open for longer.

This follows the move to Level 1 of the Safe Exit Framework, and the continued low rates of COVID-19 in the Island.

Both the Les Quennevais Library and town library were closed to the public on 21 March to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Since re-opening on 12 June, the town library has maintained limited hours.

From Monday 7 September, the opening hours will be:

Town libraryLes Quennevais branch library
Monday9.30am-9pm9am-1pm
Tuesday-Thursday9am-9pm9am-1pm
Friday-Saturday9am-5.30pm9am-1pm
SundayCLOSEDCLOSED

In both libraries, visitors will need to follow safety and hygiene measures, including:

  • sanitise your hands before entering the building
  • maintain 1m physical distance from other visitors and staff
  • all returned loans will be quarantined for 24 hours
  • seating will be limited in the library buildings

Jersey’s Chief Librarian, Ed Jewell, said: “After the disruption caused by COVID-19, I’m pleased to be welcoming more Islanders back to their libraries.

“The Les Quennevais library is a valuable resource for people in the west of the Island,
particularly for those who might not be able to make the trip into town, or who might not feel safe doing so. Our new opening hours will offer these users an additional 2.5 hours per week.

“Since we re-opened the town library on 12 June, the response from the public has been phenomenal: our study spaces and computer facilities have been in consistently high demand.

“We’re therefore returning to our pre-COVID evening opening hours. This will allow more visitors to use the library while maintaining social distancing, and will enable us to work with community partners to host small meetings in the evening, as the Island moved further into Level 1 of the Safe Exit Framework.”

The trial of extended opening hours at the Les Quennevais library (still located at the old Les Quennevais school building) will run until the end of the year.
