Essential medication delivered Island-wide

22 April 2020

Drivers from Jersey Post and Yellow Cabs have been working with the Call and Check Service to deliver health supplies across the Island in partnership with Health and Community Services.

To protect vulnerable Islanders from needing to visit GP surgeries and pharmacies and to support social distancing measures, drivers have been collecting and delivering prescriptions.

Drivers collect prescriptions from GP surgeries daily and take them to pharmacies for dispensing. Once the prescriptions have been dispensed they are collected by drivers and delivered to Islanders across all parishes.

Pharmacy Services Manager for Health and Community Services Deborah O’Driscoll said: “This service has been set up to ensure that vulnerable Islanders continue to receive their vital medication. Jersey Post and Yellow Cab drivers have recently started delivering specialist, controlled medication which includes refrigerated items.

“This has been a successful partnership that has ensured health supplies are reaching patients in a safe and reliable way. The service began in March and the teams have successfully delivered up to 700 items a day. I’d like to thank the drivers of Yellow Cab, Jersey Post and Call and Check for their commitment to supporting Islanders at this crucial time.”

The prescription delivery scheme will operate temporarily during the coronavirus outbreak to ensure Islanders continue to receive vital medication.

Call and Check Director Phil Romeril said: “The award-winning Call and Check Service safeguards elderly and vulnerable people and supports independent living for as long as possible. The coronavirus outbreak has meant that many are now home isolating. The service continues to offer a sense of reassurance for those signed up to the service as well as those who are new to receiving support and provides peace of mind for their family.”

Jersey Post drivers are operating under the Call and Check Service which operates from Monday- Saturday. Yellow Cabs has a current contract with Health and Community Services to deliver various services for the department.
