An outdoor survival course which aims to build young people’s confidence and communication skills is still accepting applicants.

The free Get Started in Survival course, run by the Prince’s Trust, is open to those aged between 16 and 25 who are not in employment, education or training. The week-long course, which includes a range of outdoor survival skills such as camping, archery, coastal foraging and shelter building, runs between Monday 14 September and Friday 18 September.

Young people have until 4pm on Thursday 10 September to sign-up to the course.

Jo Dove, Youth Worker with the Prince’s Trust, said: "The aim of the Prince’s Trust is to help young people to develop personally and to help provide them with skills that they will be able to use in the future.

"The Get Started in Survival course helps boost confidence, communication skills and promotes teamwork by getting young people to take part in a range of activities from paddle sports to shelter building and from rock climbing to camping. Groups that take part in the course always speak highly of what they have gained from the experience and I would encourage any young person who is interested in signing up, to get in touch."

The Assistant Minister for Education, Deputy Jeremy Maçon, added: "This course is a wonderful opportunity for young people to gain vital skills that will help them in their future education development as well as their training and careers."

To find out more about the programme or to sign-up to next week’s scheme please contact Jo Dove on jodove@jsy.je or call 07797758287.
