Advice on Storm Ines

The following advice has been issued regarding Storm Ines for tide and wind warnings for Jersey:

A red tide warning has been issued by Jersey Met for today’s high tide at 9:19am with a height of 11.5m.
At the time of high tide this morning the wind is expected to be west to southwest strong F7 to gale F8.
Due to the movement of the low pressure and the strength of the wind, the tide is likely to rise by up to 0.6m (2 feet) higher than the predicted tide, therefore expected to reach a height of around 12.0m.
The public are warned to expect some flooding, on the south coast and other low-lying areas.
The main period of risk is from 8:15am to 10:30am Thursday 13 February.
The public are asked to keep away from coastal areas (including outlying harbours) to avoid risk of harm and not to put themselves in any unnecessary danger, especially in coastal areas, as there will be a risk of flying debris, including stones.
With regard to personal property, please ensure that buildings are secure, and any outside items are either brought inside or tied down and secured.
Members of the public are also reminded to remove cars from slipways, due to the high tides and stormy conditions.

The public are reminded to exercise caution when driving and are warned to expect travel delays this morning
Victoria Avenue westbound is likely to be closed from about this time. There is a risk that east bound traffic could be stopped for a short time closer to high water.
A decision will be made this morning as to whether further coastal roads will be closed.
Liberty Bus and school bus services will be running as normal, although some services maybe delayed, diverted or disrupted due to the temporary road closures.

All school and colleges will be open as usual today, as most of the disruption is likely to occur once most school traffic has been completed.
Given delays to some bus services and to road closures, this may result in some pupils arriving late. Schools will make allowances for this and are reassuring parents and carers not to worry, as they are fully aware of the disruption that the weather and tides are likely to cause across the island.
