Overseas students returning to Jersey in December

16 November 2020

A survey has been launched today asking all overseas university students how they plan to travel back to Jersey and how they plan to isolate.

The survey will help the Government of Jersey to plan for a potentially large number of students arriving in the iIland over a relatively short period of time.

Students are asked to read the latest Safer Travel GuidanceTraveller Isolation Guidance, and Isolation Guidance before they return home.

Assistant Minister for Education, Deputy Jeremy Maçon, said: “It is estimated there are 1,700 Jersey students in overseas universities. Early findings, derived from the responses to our initial student survey, suggest that at least 700 of those students, who responded to the survey, intend to travel home for the festive period.

"Following on from the UK announcements last week, and Jersey’s planned response, we will be contacting students again this week to gather further information through a survey to enable us to confirm both travel and arrival arrangements in Jersey.

“The survey will be sent directly to the 1,200 students on the Student Finance database and we will be promoting it on Government of Jersey social media channels to reach overseas students.

“We would urge all overseas students to check with their Universities if they can leave early and when they can return by and to register their details with Student Finance Jersey.”

The Department will continue to assist Higher Education students generally through its Student Finance Service.

The survey closes this Friday 20 Nov and be found on the Government of Jersey website.
