Island-wide cyber security risk assessment launches next week

​An Island-wide government cyber security risk assessment will launch next week, aimed at providing insight into the current cyber security maturity of businesses on the Island. Local small, medium and large enterprises will be sent tailored surveys relevant to the size of their business and will be asked to complete a set of questions about how the business approaches cyber security.

The aim of the survey is to raise awareness and understanding of how local businesses can improve their cyber security, and to aid the Government in directing policy initiatives that will help businesses and citizens strengthen their cyber security resilience in the future. 

All businesses that complete the survey will receive a free report identifying the businesses cyber security maturity, measuring them against an international standard.  The report will also include recommendations for how each business can improve their cyber security, factoring in the sector and size of the business, as well as how they compare to other businesses in their sector or of a similar size that respond to the survey.

The responses to the survey will be confidential. They are being collated and analysed by an external contractor. The Government will not have access to any single company’s specific survey responses and will instead receive an anonymised and aggregated findings document.

Up to 50 participating businesses could win £300 to cover the cost of Cyber Essentials certification.

The Deputy Chief Minister, Senator Lyndon Farnham, commented: “The risk assessment will help support the Government’s cyber security strategy. It will inform policy decisions and initiatives that will help local businesses improve their cyber security and resilience. This will help make all Islanders safer.

“It is recognised that as Government we need to continue to invest in cyber security and this commitment is captured in our Government Plan. The Island-wide Cyber Security Risk Assessment will help to ensure we direct our focus where it is most needed.” 

The survey will launch on Monday 14 September, and close on Monday 5 October. Those businesses who have not yet been sent a tailored survey, but wish to take part, are encouraged to apply by contacting CyberSecurity@gov.je
