The Chief Minister's statement in response to global fluctuation in the energy market.

29 September 2021

"Jersey's Government is maintaining constructive dialogue with all Jersey's energy suppliers and can reassure Islanders that we are not facing the same difficulties being experienced in the UK.  The Island has recently received a delivery of petrol, diesel and heating oil, our storage facilities are full, and there are no problems expected with scheduled deliveries from the UK or Europe. We have locally-employed delivery drivers, good succession planning in place, and we do not anticipate any interruption in supply.

"Following the price rises announced by Jersey Gas last week, we are aware that our most vulnerable domestic gas customers may need extra support. We would encourage commercial customers to contact Jersey Gas to discuss the impacts of the new prices on their contractual arrangements. We have been advised that gas supplies to the Island are secure and that the measures Jersey Gas has brought in are sufficient to bridge the global price instability, without any further increases."

"And, of course, our electricity is supplied via undersea connectors from France. This service is underpinned by a long-term contract with EDF and we do not anticipate any interruptions in supply."
