More than 100,000 vaccine doses administered

27 May 2021

The COVID-19 Vaccination Programme has reached a milestone as latest statistics (for Sunday 23 May) show that 103,044 vaccine doses have been administered, and half of the Island's adult population is fully vaccinated.

The number of doses administered includes first doses, currently 59,388, and second doses, now 43,656.

The statistics also show that nine out of ten Islanders aged over-40 have had at least one dose of the vaccine.

Other key figures for Sunday 23 May:

  • 68% of Islanders aged over 18 have received a first dose
  • 92% of Islanders aged 60-64 fully vaccinated
  • 87% of Islanders aged 55-59 fully vaccinated
  • 74% of Islanders 50-54 fully vaccinated
  • 78% of Islanders 45-49 have received a first dose
  • 71% of Islanders 40-44 have received a first dose
  • 55% of Islanders 35-39 have received a first dose
  • 36% of Islanders 30-34 have received a first dose

Head of the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, Becky Sherrington, said: "I am extremely thankful to all of our team at the Vaccination Centre and to the community who have been attending their vaccine appointments. We have administered just over 100,000 doses, which shows how much progress we have made as an Island. It is great to see that half of Islanders over 18 years-old are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. I encourage everyone to keep this up so we can continue the positive progress that is keeping Jersey safe."

Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Richard Renouf, said: "This milestone is testament to the success of the Vaccination Programme, and Islanders' willingness to get vaccinated in order to protect the community. As we head towards Stage 7 on the reconnection roadmap, it is vital that Islanders continue to attend their vaccination appointments.

"Medical experts say two doses of the vaccine are effective against the Indian variant, so it is important that Islanders attend for their second dose once invited to do so, which should be around five weeks after a first dose.

"I am pleased with how far we have come as an Island in rolling out the vaccines and I am confident we will keep it up as we reach the younger age groups."

Eligible Islanders can book their COVID-19 vaccination appointments on gov.je/vaccine or by calling the Coronavirus Freephone Helpline on 0800 735 5566.
