Long Service Rewards

12 August 2022

Five Non-Clinical Services Staff for Health and Community Services (HCS) have celebrated a total of 133 years’ service between them.

Three Porters, an Appointments Clerk and a Purchasing Officer have all been celebrated with a Long Service Award.

Steve Meldrum, who has provided 25 years’ service, started working in the Engineering Stores at the General Hospital in February 1997 before moving to the Medical Supplies Department in Five Oaks to work as a Purchasing Officer in 2008.

The 56-year-old from Grouville said: "The role can be very challenging, especially over the last two to three years. Covid and Brexit brought us very serious supply issues, and although we still experience issues with supply, which need daily attention, things seem to be getting back to some sort of normality which is pleasing.

"I’m not sure I would have made 25 years if it wasn’t for the great people I have worked with over the years. Our current team is a real credit to the department and organisation. We come together and work very hard as a team to keep the supply of goods as available as possible. Hopefully myself and the whole department have served Health well over the years and hope to do so for many years to come."

Also celebrated were Sarah Clark, who first started in Medical Records 27 years ago and soon progressed to the role of Clinic Clerk. Sarah joined the back office in Outpatient Appointments in 1998 which involved training new staff, and booking various clinics before she became an ENT appointment Clerk in 2014. She is now the Appointment Clerk for the Dietetic Department.

Andrew Journeaux began working at the General Hospital in September 1994 and has provided 28 years’ service. He started out in the Pharmacy and then moved across to the Portering department in 2016. Within a year he became a Chargehand for the Porters.

Kevin Le Sueur works nights within the Portering team. He began working for the department in October 1995, providing 27 years’ service. Terence Crenan, who started working within Portering Services at the General Hospital in March 1996, is due to retire next year.

Director General Caroline Landon said: “Non-Clinical Services play an invaluable part in the smooth operation of HCS and it was truly an honour to present these Long Service awards to these hardworking and committed individuals. These colleagues have attained an extraordinary amount of service and I thank them deeply for their loyalty to the department.”
