Two men have been sentenced for drug trafficking and money laundering offences at the Royal Court.
Yesterday, 5 January, Jersey resident Anthony Andrew Dryden and Nicholas Whitcombe of Liverpool, both aged 31, were each sentenced to three years imprisonment for offences relating to the importation of cannabis into Jersey, and the subsequent exportation of cash.
The sentencing was the culmination of a lengthy investigation undertaken by Jersey Customs and Immigration Service (JCIS) officers which established the two men had worked together over an extended period in 2018 to both organise the importation of cannabis into the island, and the exportation of their profits via the postal system.
Throughout the investigation, JCIS officers worked closely with UK colleagues in Merseyside Police which ensured the arrest and subsequent return to Jersey of Whitcombe, where he was charged alongside Dryden and brought before the Royal Court.
Rhiannon Small, Senior Manager at JCIS said: "The custodial sentences handed down by the Royal Court reflect the serious nature of drug trafficking and money laundering into our island; the detection and prevention of such offences remain a priority for JCIS."
