No Water’s Edge Hotel public inquiry

23 September 2022

The Minister for the Environment, Deputy Jonathan Renouf, has confirmed that he will not call a public inquiry into the planning application for the redevelopment of the former Water’s Edge Hotel in Bouley Bay.

The applicant wishes to demolish the hotel and build a home with guest and staff
accommodation. The plans also include proposals to create a dive centre and
café/restaurant.

Deputy Renouf’s predecessor as Minister, Deputy John Young, had previously called
in the application for an inquiry, which has not yet taken place. A recent decision of
the Royal Court cancelled the previous Minister’s ruling, due to what was deemed to
be an insufficient explanation of the decision.

Deputy Renouf has now concluded that the matter should be dealt with through the
usual planning process. He said: “Following careful consideration of the Royal Court’s
decision, I have decided not to intervene in this planning application. In arriving at
this decision, I am not expressing any view on the merits of the plans.”

Due to the number of representations (comments) received by members of the
public, a decision on the application will be made by the Planning Committe
