Second Assistant Minister confirmed for Health and Social Services

21 October 2022

The ministerial team at Health and Social Services has been strengthened with the appointment of a second Assistant Minister.

Deputy Malcolm Ferey, who is already serving as Assistant Minister for Social Security, will take on the position with immediate effect. The position covers the responsibilities for social care, rehabilitation and support for the charitable sector.

In agreement with the Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Karen Wilson, Deputy Ferey will take on responsibility for:

  • rehabilitation
  • adult services and social care policy; and
  • stakeholder engagement with charitable organisations for those areas within his responsibility and the wider Health and Social Services portfolio.

Deputy Ferey joins Deputy Rose Binet, who has responsibility for Mental Health in the ministerial team.

Speaking about his new role, Deputy Ferey said: "I am extremely pleased that the Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Karen Wilson, has created a second Assistant Minister position with responsibility for Social Care, Rehabilitation and support for the Charitable sector.

"The Health portfolio has strong links with my work at Social Security and I am looking forward to bridging these two workstreams, interacting with a wider range of staff and identifying any gaps in service delivery."

Deputy Wilson added: “Deputy Ferey’s appointment brings a wide range of skills to the ministerial team and ensures that our links with the Minister for Social Security is further strengthened. Deputy Ferey’s strong background with the charitable sector in Jersey and his passion for all areas of health and social care is a real asset. Deputy Binet and I are delighted to welcome him.”
